A loafer that is the icon of a certain way of interpreting fashion: chic, cheerful, essential and luxurious. Italian elegance at its Best
A new language of fashion. It is the one created by Diego Della Valle in the late ’70s with a simple loafer. And keep in mind, simple doesn’t mean trivial. Quite the contrary. Tod’s Gommino – now recognized as an undisputed fashion icon – is the perfect symbol of the “less is more” concept. Essential, comfort, lightness. Removing rather than adding in a time in which excess – in life as well as in fashion – was commonplace: Della Valle was a student when he realized that there were no luxury shoes to wear all day long with the elegant dress, but also with a casual suit. Eureka: he took inspiration from the 50s “driving shoes” and added 133 rubber pebbles – gommini – embedded into the sole. Those 133 rubbers have undermined usual standards, in terms of elegance.
Finally a pair of comfortable, light, ultra-soft and highly luxurious – it is entirely hand-stitched – shoes to wear every day, everywhere, with formal or casual style, even with a pair of chinos and a polo shirt. In the United States, it has sounded immediately as the Friday clothing solution. The best way to cross the imaginary bridge that lead to the relaxed atmosphere of the weekend. It did not matter if the weekend was spent in the city: Friday wear was already on its way to Europe and Asia.
The essential styling of Tod’s Gommino masks more than 100 production steps – leather cutting, assembling, sewing, etc. – more than 35 pieces of leather and truly devotion for highest quality materials, so rare nowadays. Leathers come from the best tanneries in the world and very often receive an “aging” of years to get the right colour and texture. Durability, uniformity and lightness: three requirements that each Tod’s Gommino must possess, under penalty of not being placed on the market.
The exceptional manufacturing has meant that Tod’s Gommino has become the favourite footwear of many stars and celebrities, from Lady D to Andrea Casiraghi, from Michael Douglas to Catherine Deneuve, from Denzel Washington to Antonio Banderas, from Gwyneth Paltrow to Sarah Jessica Parker, from Cameron Diaz to Drew Barrymore, to name a few.
Every year, collections sees the addition of new models and new processes, to make men and women, who love that Italian allure with a classic and casual taste, happy.
For SS 2018 women’s collection, for example, Tod’s Gommino features an increasingly classy leather manufacture, decorated with metal all-over appliques or with fringe trims.
For men’s collection, Tod’s promises to paint this summer with bright and intense colours, such as green, deep blue, orange. In leather and suede, Tod’s Gommino will play a key role to create a 100% Italian style outfit: white, blue or striped shirt, khaki trousers or elegant jeans with no tears and, of course, Tod’s loafers.
