“I feel the need…the need for speed.”
This is one of the most famous quotes by Lieutenant Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in Top Gun, cult movie of the eighties, which at the time catapulted to international stardom a twenty-year-old and almost unknown Tom Cruise.
The adrenaline motorcycle racings, the insubordinate behavior of a young pilot and the exciting takeoffs of a US Navy F14 are not the only things left of that movie. Something else has remained: the men’s fashion. Some clothes and accessories, in fact, have become “cult”, such as the aviator sunglasses, the white T -shirt and the iconic leather bomber jacket.
And it is right the aviation-inspired leather jacket which enjoys a revival in the Fall-Winter 2018/19, also thanks to the “semiotic” work of a brand that has built its own success upon the army look: Top Gun®.
Top Gun is one of the latest “new entries” in the Massaboutique.com winter catalog. It finds inspiration in the aviation heritage to create garments for men, women and children. Founded in 1996 in Queens, New York, the company has brought into the fashion world, the standards of perfection and durability adopted in the Top Gun school.
The materials are the same used to create the jackets worn by the aviators during their training. Leather and nylon, for strong, indestructible and functional jackets. As in the movie, there are models with the iconic shearling neck and models embellished with patches, which immediately give an aura of heroism even to the most ordinary man.
There are two models to choose from, the nylon or the leather one.
The nylon model echoes the bomber MA-1, the official flight jacket worn by pilots and ground crew of the US Air Force and Navy during the ’50s: obviously, the design is more urban and contemporary than the original, thanks also to some colorful and funny patches.
The leather model reproduces the iconic and original Top Gun® B-15 army jacket, designed in 1944 to provide Air Force pilots with comfort and warmth even in the most extreme conditions. The collar is in shearling, the cuffs and the bottom are knitted and the colorful patches give a military appeal to the bomber jacket.
The total “army” look is completed by a lightweight nylon backpack, durable, with strong zippers and padded shoulder straps. It is spacious enough to contain books, PCs and a change of clothes for the gym.
Until the next take-off.
